The home of PlayFully, Inc. is in the Rocky Mountains, next to a stream in Estes Park, Colorado…with a bag packed and ready to go at a moment’s request. Programs have been delivered in every state of our union excepting 2, (Maine or Idaho anyone?) and in countries such as Scotland, Ireland, Germany, and the Island of Tortola!
WHAT IS OUR HISTORY?
As with most people, the path is not straight, but zigs and zags across many landscapes and many years (over 40). Service is a PlayFully, Inc. value, and while teaching, volunteering to work experientially with groups that had little or no money was the unplanned first step. Looking back, my early work volunteering gave me in-depth experience, and confidence, and ignited the fiery passion to start PlayFully, Inc.
I found my philosophical home in the New Games movement of the 70’s. I was hooked by the New Games motto, ”everybody plays, everybody wins” and that included me! I strapped on my “training wheels” and volunteer gigs with children and adults rolled into a lifetime career.
The advent of challenge courses and rock climbing, in its infancy in Texas, beckoned like an empty canvas, inviting my eager participation. I tied harnesses and knots and craved of the exhilarating sense of interdependence possible when climbing anything while roped up! Ropes courses began to dot the Texas woods, and I jumped into the fray with both feet. I combined my new skills with my polished ones to teach a college course, where I am sure that I learned more than the students…an impetus to get my master’s.
A move to my childhood dream state of Colorado led me into the welcoming arms of AEE (Assoc. Experiential Education), and connections with talented facilitators and outdoor leaders across the country.
Growth producing years of playing, teaching, conference workshops, facilitating groups of all kinds, experimenting, travel for clients, skill sharpening and philosophy deepening followed and have led to sharing as much as I can, through writing and speaking.
I’ve gone forward, backwards, sideways, and yes, in circles – helping others while wrapping myself around what makes us all tick, and how we can discover and express our highest selves to be the best we can be. New challenges bring opportunities for creativity, and connection…and the reward of generating results beyond imagination.
